Rarely — only as individual fronds die. Dyer's Cycad (Encephalartos dyerianus) requires minimal pruning. It is a critically endangered slow-growing species; remove only dead or completely brown fronds at their base. Cutting healthy fronds wastes the plant's stored reserves. Treat each leaf as precious and intervene only when fronds are clearly spent.
