Directly after flowering, early to mid-summer. Shorten flowered shoots to healthy young laterals. Selectively remove the oldest, woodiest canes at ground level — roughly one-quarter per year — to sustain an open, free-flowering structure.

Annually after flowering. Rosealind deutzia blooms on old wood in early summer, producing deep carmine-pink buds. Prune immediately after flowers fade, cutting flowered stems back to vigorous new shoots or strong buds lower on the branch. Remove one-quarter of the oldest canes at the base each year. Never prune in autumn — you will lose the following year's flowers.
