How to prune cymbidium 'showgirl'

After flowering ends, usually late winter to early spring. Cut finished spikes to the base with sterilised scissors. At repotting every 3–4 years, divide clumps into sections of 3–4 pseudobulbs and discard shrivelled leafless back-bulbs.

Annually post-bloom; division every 3–4 years. Cymbidium 'Showgirl' is a standard cymbidium hybrid: remove spent flower spikes at the base as soon as the blooms finish to conserve plant energy. Trim brown leaf tips cosmetically if you wish. Old leafless back-bulbs can be removed at repotting. Never cut healthy green leaves or plump pseudobulbs.
