Any time as dead fronds appear. Using sharp, clean scissors or bypass pruners, sever dead fronds at the very base where they attach to the trunk. Do not pull fronds off — this risks tearing the trunk. Never cut green stems short; a cut stem on a palm will not regrow.

As needed; rarely more than a few fronds per year. Howea belmoreana (Curly Kentia Palm) requires almost no pruning. Remove only fronds that are entirely dead or brown by cutting at the very base of the stem. Never cut back a healthy green frond mid-stem — doing so permanently kills that growth point and the palm cannot replace it. Each frond that dies is simply removed cleanly.
