Pruning crocus — FAQ
When should I prune crocus?
Remove spent flowers as they fade; leave foliage until it yellows naturally (late spring to early summer). Snap off the spent flower head at its base if appearance matters, but do not cut any leaves. Allow foliage to die back fully on its own before tidying. No other pruning is needed.
How often does crocus need pruning?
Rarely — foliage tidy once per year only after it has fully yellowed. Crocuses need almost no pruning. After flowering, remove spent blooms if desired, but the foliage must be left completely intact for at least six weeks so leaves can photosynthesize and replenish the corm for next year. Never tie, braid, or cut the leaves early — doing so weakens or kills the plant.
