How to prune cosmos sulphureus 'bright lights'

Continuously through summer; pinch once when young plants are 20–25 cm tall. Snip spent flower heads back to a lateral shoot. Pinch growing tips on young plants above the second or third node to stimulate a bushy, multi-stemmed habit.

Deadhead weekly throughout the season; pinch once when young. Sulphur cosmos 'Bright Lights' produces vivid orange, yellow and red blooms most freely when deadheaded regularly. Remove spent flowers by cutting to a side shoot or leaf node. Plants are naturally compact compared to Cosmos bipinnatus but still benefit from an early pinch on young transplants to maximise branching.
