How to prune christmas palm

After fruiting, typically late winter; dead fronds any time. Cut dead fronds cleanly at the base of the petiole where it meets the crownshaft. Remove old fruit stalks at the base once fruit has dropped. Avoid cutting into the green crownshaft.

Rarely — as needed, perhaps once a year. Christmas Palm is largely self-cleaning and needs very little pruning. Remove only completely brown, dead fronds and old spent fruit clusters (the red fruits that give it its name). Green fronds must never be cut. The crownshaft cleanly sheds old material, so active pruning is rarely necessary.
