When should I prune chervil?
Remove flower stems as soon as they appear (spring or summer depending on sowing time). Pinch or snip flower stems at the base before buds open; cut outer leaves from the base for harvest, leaving inner growth to continue.
How often does chervil need pruning?
Check for bolting weekly; harvest leaves every 1–2 weeks. Chervil is a fast-growing annual herb that bolts quickly in heat. The key pruning task is pinching out flower stems immediately as they appear — once it flowers, leaves lose their delicate anise flavour. Harvest outer leaves continuously from the outside of the plant to delay bolting. There is no pruning beyond that; plants are replaced each season.
