When should I prune cape jewels?
Deadhead throughout flowering; cut back hard in midsummer or whenever plants become leggy. Snip spent flower stems back to a strong lateral shoot. For the mid-season reset, shear the entire plant to about one-third of its height, water well, and apply a balanced liquid feed.
How often does cape jewels need pruning?
Continuous deadheading; one or two hard cut-backs per season. Nemesia strumosa performs far better with regular deadheading and a mid-season cut-back. Remove spent flowers continuously to prevent quick decline. After the initial summer flush fades — or when plants become leggy in heat — cut back by half to two-thirds and feed; a fresh flush typically follows in cooler weather.
