How to prune campsis radicans

Annually; sucker removal throughout the growing season. Campsis radicans (trumpet vine) is a very vigorous deciduous climber that needs firm annual pruning to prevent it taking over. Prune hard in late winter or early spring before buds break — flowers are borne on the current season's growth, so cutting back to a short framework spur each year produces the best display and keeps the plant manageable.
