How to prune camas

After flowering (late spring to early summer). Cut spent flower stalks to the base once blooms have passed. Leave foliage in place until fully yellowed and dry, then remove. Avoid disturbance of surrounding soil until leaves have died down.

Annually after each flowering. Camas needs very little pruning. Deadhead the tall flower spikes after bloom if self-seeding is unwanted, though the seed heads are attractive and wildlife-friendly. The strap-like leaves must be left to die back naturally after flowering to recharge the bulb for next season. No other pruning is needed.
