How often does button cactus need pruning?
Rarely — as needed when clusters outgrow the container. Button Cactus (Mammillaria prolifera) is a clustering cactus that needs no pruning. It forms dense clumps naturally. Thin or remove offsets in spring only if the pot is severely overcrowded. There is no benefit to cutting the main stems. Wear gloves — the dense spines easily embed in skin.
