How to prune brahea edulis

Any time of year when fronds are fully dead; remove flower stalks after fruiting. Cut dead fronds cleanly at the base with a sharp, sterilised saw, leaving a short stub that will eventually shed naturally. Cut spent flower stalks at their point of origin on the trunk.

As needed — rarely more than a handful of fronds annually. Brahea edulis (Guadalupe Palm) requires very little pruning. Only remove completely dead or severely brown fronds; the palm is slow-growing and stressing it with unnecessary cuts is counterproductive. Spent flower and fruit stalks can be removed once fruiting is complete to keep the canopy tidy and reduce weight.
