Annually. Bowles Golden Sedge (Carex elata 'Aurea') is a deciduous moisture-loving sedge. Cut it back hard in late autumn after it dies down, or wait until late winter before new shoots emerge in spring. Remove all old foliage at or near the crown to allow the fresh bright-yellow new growth to show without obstruction.
