Rarely; tidy once a year at most. Blue Star is a very slow-growing, compact mounding juniper that naturally stays small and needs almost no pruning. Remove any dead or winter-browned stems in spring and cut out any vigorous shoots that distort the symmetrical dome. Beyond that, leave it alone — over-pruning ruins the dense, star-like silver-blue texture.
