How to prune sempervivum 'black'

After a rosette flowers and dies (any season). Cut or twist out the dead monocarpic rosette at its base with clean scissors or fingers. Peel off withered outer leaves by hand. Leave all healthy rosettes and emerging offsets completely undisturbed.

As needed — only when spent rosettes need removing. Sempervivum 'Black' requires no routine pruning. Like all Sempervivum, individual rosettes flower once then die — remove the spent rosette cleanly at the base and let surrounding offsets fill the space. Strip away dry outer leaves periodically to keep the clump tidy. No shaping, cutting back, or deadheading is needed beyond this.
