Babaco is a compact, trunk-forming papaya relative with a single central stem — it does not branch and cannot be shaped by traditional pruning. Remove only old, yellowing lower leaves as they die back naturally. If the trunk becomes too tall, the plant can be tip-cut and will sucker from the base.
