How to prune autumn crocus

Clear dead spring foliage in late spring once fully yellowed (May–June). Pull or cut brown, fully collapsed foliage at ground level. Since leaves appear in spring and flowers in autumn, avoid disturbing the planting area between these phases. No other pruning is needed.

Rarely — once per season. Autumn Crocus (Crocus speciosus) needs minimal pruning. Flowers appear in autumn before leaves, which emerge in spring — so there is rarely any overlap to manage. Allow the spring foliage to die back naturally (do not cut it while green) before tidying away in late spring or early summer. Deadheading is optional and has little practical effect on corm health.
