Actively throughout spring and summer; hard cut-back in autumn. Pinch or snip growing tips regularly to encourage branching. When flower buds form, remove them entirely. In late autumn cut all stems to 2–3 cm above the soil surface.

Tip-pinch every 2–3 weeks in season; full cut-back once annually in autumn. Apple Mint grows vigorously and benefits from frequent cutting to keep it bushy rather than leggy. Remove flower spikes promptly to preserve leaf flavour. In autumn cut the whole plant back to a few centimetres above soil level to encourage fresh growth in spring and reduce woody die-back.
