Throughout the growing season as stalks mature (usually 85–120 days from transplant). Snap or cut individual outer stalks at the base. Remove yellowing or damaged growth immediately. Do not cut the central growing crown.
How often does celery need pruning?
As needed through harvest period. Celery does not need traditional pruning. For stalk celery, snap off outer stalks at the base as you harvest — this is both harvest and pruning. Remove any yellowing or damaged outer stalks promptly to improve airflow and reduce disease risk. Do not remove too many stalks at once; leave at least 5–6 to sustain the plant.
