How to prune allium schubertii

Remove spent stems in late summer or autumn once fully dried; no rush — seedheads are ornamentally valuable. Cut the long, dried flower stem to ground level with secateurs when you are ready to clear it. Foliage will have died back well before this point and can be pulled away by hand.

Once per season; many gardeners cut stems in autumn during general garden clear-up. Allium schubertii needs virtually no pruning. Its spectacular, spidery dried seedheads are among the most ornamental of any allium and are best left standing for months after flowering. Remove stems only when they become fully weathered and unattractive. Allow foliage to yellow and die back naturally without interference.
