Rarely — only when dead leaves accumulate. Agave mitis (also sold as Agave celsii) is a relatively soft-leaved agave that still needs very little pruning. Remove dead or yellowed outer leaves at the base as they naturally dry. Unlike many agaves, the leaf edges are softer, making removal slightly easier, but caution near the tip is still advised.
