ZZ Plant Raven problems — and how to fix them
ZZ Plant Raven (Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Raven') is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Yellowing leaves from overwatering
The classic ZZ complaint; soggy soil rots the rhizomes and yellows the stems. Let the mix dry well between waterings and ensure the pot drains freely.
New growth reverting green
Fresh foliage is naturally lime green and darkens with age and adequate light. If leaves stay pale and never blacken, increase bright indirect light.
Leaning or splaying stems
In too little light the stems stretch and flop outward. Move to brighter indirect light and rotate the pot periodically for even, upright growth.
Brown leaf tips
Often from over-fertilising, fluoride in tap water, or very low humidity. Flush the soil occasionally and water with filtered or rainwater if tips persist.
