Wandering Orthophytum problems — and how to fix them
Wandering Orthophytum (Orthophytum vagans) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root rot from overwatering or poor drainage
As a rocky-habitat plant, O. vagans is highly susceptible to root rot if the soil stays wet. Use a very gritty mix, water only when the top layer is dry, and ensure excellent pot drainage.
Loss of red leaf colouration in low light
Insufficient light causes the attractive red or copper pigmentation to fade to plain green. Move to a brighter spot with at least some direct morning sun or high-intensity grow-light exposure.
