Tufted Fescue problems — and how to fix them
Tufted Fescue (Festuca amethystina) is generally low-drama, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Centre die-out
Clumps die out from the centre after three to four years; divide in early spring, replanting only vigorous outer portions, to restore a healthy mound and prevent permanent decline.
Powdery mildew and leaf spot
Fungal leaf diseases can appear in humid, shaded or overcrowded conditions. Plant in full sun with good air circulation and avoid wetting foliage when watering to minimise risk.
