Texas Sage problems — and how to fix them
Texas Sage (Salvia coccinea) is generally low-drama, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Powdery mildew
Can develop in late summer particularly in humid conditions with poor air circulation; space plants well apart and treat with a potassium bicarbonate or sulphur-based fungicide at first sign.
Aphids and whitefly
Soft new growth attracts aphid colonies and whitefly, especially in sheltered gardens; hose off colonies or apply insecticidal soap. Ladybird (ladybug) populations provide good natural control.
