Terap problems — and how to fix them
Terap (Artocarpus elasticus) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root rot
Caused by waterlogged soil or poor drainage. Symptoms include yellowing foliage, wilting and bark darkening at the base. Ensure free-draining soil and allow the surface to partially dry between waterings.
Scale insects
Waxy scale can colonise stems and leaf undersides, causing yellowing and stunted growth. Treat with horticultural oil spray or neem oil, repeating every 2 weeks until controlled.
Leaf scorch
Brown, crispy leaf margins appear when humidity drops sharply or cold dry winds blow. Increase ambient humidity and protect from desiccating winds with windbreaks or companion planting.
