Taita African violet problems — and how to fix them
Taita African violet (Saintpaulia teitensis) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Crown rot
Caused by water pooling at the growing centre or cold water on the crown. Always bottom-water or direct water to the soil edge, and ensure the pot drains completely within 30 minutes.
Leaf spotting
Cold or mineral-laden water splashed on leaves causes whitish or brown rings that are permanent. Use room-temperature distilled or rainwater and keep foliage dry.
Failure to bloom
Usually caused by insufficient light. Move to a brighter position (or extend grow-light duration to 12–14 hours) and ensure the plant receives at least 8 hours of darkness each night.
