Snapdragon vine problems — and how to fix them
Snapdragon vine (Maurandya barclayana) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Aphids
Colonies of aphids cluster on soft growing tips, causing distorted new growth; knock off with a strong water jet or apply insecticidal soap.
Whitefly
Whitefly build up quickly in warm conditions, especially under cover; yellow sticky traps and introduction of Encarsia formosa are effective controls.
Slow to start after transplanting
Seeds are slow to germinate and seedlings can stall in cold compost; bottom heat of 18–21°C dramatically improves germination speed and early vigour.
