Sky Plant problems — and how to fix them
Sky Plant (Tillandsia ionantha) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Rotting or mushy centre
Water trapped in the rosette after soaking. Always shake off excess and dry the plant fully, upside down, with good airflow.
Curling, crispy leaves
Under-watering or very dry air. Soak more often and check that leaves are not staying dry too long between waterings.
Faded colour and stretching
Insufficient light. Move to a brighter, indirect spot to restore the compact form and red blush.
Brown leaf tips
Hard tap water or low humidity. Switch to rain or filtered water for soaking and raise ambient humidity.
