Sky Lupine problems — and how to fix them
Sky Lupine (Lupinus nanus) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Damping off / root rot
The primary cultivation problem, caused by overwatering or clay soils that hold moisture. Sow into well-draining gritty soil; avoid overhead watering after seeds germinate.
Powdery mildew
Appears in still, humid conditions or when plants are crowded. Space seeds at recommended distances (15–20 cm apart) and ensure full-sun siting to minimize outbreaks.
Poor germination without scarification
The hard seed coat is impermeable. Lightly scuff seeds with sandpaper or soak in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing. Germination improves dramatically with this pretreatment.
