Silky Petrocosmea problems — and how to fix them
Silky Petrocosmea (Petrocosmea sericea) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Crown rot
The upturned leaf margins can direct water toward the crown if overhead-watered. Always bottom-water. Remove any soft or discolored leaves at the first sign of rot.
Grey mould (Botrytis)
In cool damp conditions with poor air circulation, Botrytis can establish on the hairy leaf surface. Improve airflow and remove affected tissue promptly.
Very slow offsetting
P. sericea is among the slowest Petrocosmea to produce offsets. Do not divide prematurely — wait until offsets have at least 3–4 mature leaves before separating.
