Root rot in poorly drained or cold-wet conditions
Despite needing more moisture than arid relatives, standing water or cold, wet substrate in winter kills roots rapidly. Ensure the mix drains freely, reduce watering significantly during cool months, and keep the plant frost-free. Root rot progresses quickly — act at the first sign of crown softening.
