Round-Leaved Rhoogeton problems — and how to fix them
Round-Leaved Rhoogeton (Rhoogeton cyclophyllum) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Desiccation and leaf curl
Caused by a drop in humidity below 60%. Leaves curl and shrivel rapidly when exposed to dry air. Maintain enclosure and mist or seal the terrarium to sustain humidity above 70%.
Algae overgrowth on substrate
In very high-humidity conditions with bright light, algae can colonise the soil surface and compete with roots. Reduce light intensity slightly and improve airflow with brief venting of the terrarium.
Fungal crown rot
Excessive waterlogging at the crown where stems meet the soil causes crown rot. Ensure terrarium substrate is free-draining at the bottom layer and avoid directing water onto the crown directly.
Prevent round-leaved rhoogeton problems before they start
Most round-leaved rhoogeton issues are care-mismatch, not bad luck. Dial in the basics:
