Rambutan problems — and how to fix them

Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.

No fruit despite flowering

Many trees are functionally single-sex; without a pollinating male or hermaphrodite-flowering tree nearby, fruit set fails. Choose grafted hermaphrodite-flowering cultivars.

Even brief exposure near 10°C or to drying winds damages foliage and fruit; rambutan is only viable in genuinely tropical or sheltered greenhouse conditions.
