QIS Mix statice problems — and how to fix them
QIS Mix statice (Limonium sinuatum 'QIS Mix') is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root and crown rot
The primary cause of plant failure. Caused by waterlogged or poorly drained soil. Ensure gritty, free-draining growing medium and do not water before the surface soil has dried.
Botrytis (grey mould)
Affects papery calyxes in humid or wet conditions. Improve air circulation, avoid overhead irrigation, and remove spent or damaged tissue promptly.
Poor stem length / blind stems
Caused by insufficient light or vernalisation. QIS series requires full sun and, when starting from seed, a cool period (around 10°C) shortly after germination to trigger uniform stem elongation.
