Philodendron splendid problems — and how to fix them
Philodendron splendid (Philodendron verrucosum × melanochrysum) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Stunted or small leaves
Low humidity, weak light or no support. Provide a moss pole, bright indirect light and humidity above 60% for larger leaves.
Brown velvet patches
Direct sun scorch or water sitting on leaves. Keep out of direct sun and water at the soil, not the foliage.
Yellowing leaves
Overwatering or poor drainage. Let the top of the mix dry and ensure the pot drains freely.
Crispy leaf edges
Dry air. Raise ambient humidity with a humidifier or grouping; misting alone is not enough.
