Old Man Cactus problems — and how to fix them
Old Man Cactus (Cephalocereus senilis) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Soft, brown rot at the base
Overwatering or poor drainage, especially in cool weather. Use a gritty mineral mix and water only when fully dry; keep dry in winter.
