Mondo Grass problems — and how to fix them
Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon japonicus) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Leaf scorch in sun
Hot direct sun bleaches and browns the foliage. Move to partial shade or bright indirect light for the best dark-green colour.
Slow spread / patchiness
It establishes and knits together slowly. Plant at close spacing for quicker cover and be patient through the first season or two.
Yellowing in wet soil
Waterlogged or poorly drained soil yellows leaves and rots roots. Improve drainage and let the surface dry slightly between waterings.
Tatty winter foliage
