Many-pinnate Cycad problems — and how to fix them
Many-pinnate Cycad (Cycas multipinnata) is generally low-drama, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root rot from overwatering
The most common cultivation failure; in heavy or waterlogged compost the root system and trunk base collapse. Repot into fresh, very gritty mix, trim affected roots, and treat with a copper-based fungicide before re-establishing in a drier regime.
Leaflet tip burn
Caused by low humidity, fluoride in tap water, or salt accumulation from synthetic fertilisers; the delicate bipinnate leaflets are particularly susceptible. Use rainwater or filtered water and flush the pot periodically to remove salt build-up.
