Delta Vygie problems — and how to fix them

Delta Vygie (Lampranthus deltoides) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.

Root rot in wet conditions

Wet soil, especially in cool weather or winter, rapidly causes root and stem rot. Always ensure fast drainage and hold water in winter.

Sparse flowering

Most commonly due to low light or insufficient cool/dry winter rest. Maximise sun exposure and reduce watering from late autumn.

Leggy growth after flowering

Cut back by a third after the main flowering flush to encourage compact, bushy regrowth later in the season.

Aphids

New shoot tips may attract aphids in spring. Treat with a water spray or insecticidal soap at the first sign of infestation.

Frost damage to outdoor plants

Protect from frost below -2°C. Move containers under glass or into a frost-free space before the first frost in cold climates.

Prevent delta vygie problems before they start

Most delta vygie issues are care-mismatch, not bad luck. Dial in the basics:
