Troubleshooting
Pink Vygie problems — and how to fix them
Pink Vygie (Lampranthus blandus) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root rot
Overwatering or poorly draining soil is the main cause of failure. Always use containers with drainage holes and allow soil to dry between waterings.
Aphids on flower buds
Soft spring growth and flower buds can attract aphids. Remove by hand or spray with insecticidal soap on a cool, overcast day.
Leggy growth and few flowers
Caused by insufficient sunlight. Move to a sunnier spot; trim back leggy stems after flowering to encourage bushier regrowth.
Frost damage
Damaged by hard frost. In colder climates, move containers under cover or into an unheated greenhouse from autumn. Overwinter at 5°C or above.
Powdery mildew in humid conditions
Poor air circulation combined with humidity can trigger powdery mildew on foliage. Improve ventilation and avoid wetting leaves.
Prevent pink vygie problems before they start
Most pink vygie issues are care-mismatch, not bad luck. Dial in the basics:
