Wild Strawberry problems — and how to fix them
Wild Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Aggressive runner spread
Wild strawberry can rapidly colonise adjacent beds and lawn areas via long stolons. In formal gardens, contain with a mown edge or buried root barrier. Its spreading habit is an asset in naturalistic or groundcover plantings.
Leaf scorch and leaf spot
Fungal leaf spots (Mycosphaerella fragariae) appear as purple spots with white centres, particularly in warm, wet seasons. Remove infected foliage; avoid overhead watering. Rarely severe enough to threaten plant health.
