Silver Jade Plant problems — and how to fix them
Silver Jade Plant (Crassula arborescens) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Overwatering / root rot
The most common problem; leaves become soft and mushy. Reduce watering and check drainage. Affected roots should be trimmed and the plant repotted in fresh dry compost.
Mealybugs
White waxy deposits on stems and in leaf joints. Treat with isopropyl alcohol applied on a cotton bud or a suitable insecticide.
Powdery mildew
White dusty patches on leaves in poor-air-circulation conditions. Improve ventilation and treat with a sulphur-based fungicide if severe.
Leaf drop
Sudden loss of leaves is usually caused by cold draughts or a dramatic change in light. Maintain stable conditions and avoid placing near cold windows.
Leggy growth
Prune back long stems in spring to encourage a more compact branching habit.
Prevent silver jade plant problems before they start
Most silver jade plant issues are care-mismatch, not bad luck. Dial in the basics:
