Column Aubrieta problems — and how to fix them
Column Aubrieta (Aubrieta columnae) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Winter wet rot
The main killer in cultivation. Ensure perfect drainage — plant in vertical crevices or raised alpine beds with gritty substrate. A pane of glass over the plant in wet winters helps in high-rainfall areas.
Sparse flowering
Usually caused by insufficient sun or overly fertile soil. Move to a sunnier, more open position and avoid nitrogen-rich feeds.
Slug damage
