Chiapas Air Plant problems — and how to fix them
Chiapas Air Plant (Tillandsia chiapensis) is generally low-drama, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Rot at the leaf base
Water trapped between the densely packed leaves does not dry quickly enough, leading to fungal rot. After soaking, shake the plant vigorously and allow it to dry upside-down or at an angle to ensure all moisture drains from the centre.
Leaf curl and dehydration
Leaves curl inward lengthwise when the plant is underwatered or humidity is too low. Increase soaking frequency to twice weekly temporarily and consider placing the plant near a small humidifier.
