Bamboo Palm problems — and how to fix them
Bamboo Palm (Chamaedorea erumpens) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Spider mites in low humidity
Fine webbing and stippled, bronze-coloured leaflets are the signs. Increase humidity, wipe fronds with a damp cloth, and treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap spray. Repeat treatments every 5–7 days.
Brown leaf tips
The most common complaint, caused by low humidity, fluoride in tap water, or salt build-up from over-fertilising. Use filtered or rainwater, flush the soil periodically, and maintain adequate humidity above 50%.
Root rot from overwatering
Yellowing lower fronds and mushy stem bases indicate waterlogging. Ensure excellent drainage, allow the surface to dry between waterings, and never let the pot stand in water.
