Celebes Pepper problems — and how to fix them
Celebes Pepper (Piper ornatum) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Faded or lost leaf patterning
Insufficient light is the primary cause. Move to a brighter position with good indirect light; the silver-pink spots intensify noticeably with adequate luminosity.
Spider mites
Dry indoor conditions favour spider mite infestations, visible as fine webbing on leaf undersides. Raise humidity, wipe leaves with a damp cloth, and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil spray if needed.
Leggy, weak growth
Caused by low light or overfeeding with nitrogen. Prune back the longest stems by one-third to encourage compact, branching growth and improve overall plant shape.
