Aztec Lily problems — and how to fix them
Aztec Lily (Sprekelia formosissima) is generally low-drama, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Failure to bloom
The most common complaint; caused by insufficient dormancy (bulbs need a dry, cool rest of at least eight to ten weeks), too much shade, or over-potting. Keep the bulb dry and slightly cool (7–10°C) through winter to trigger reliable flowering.
Red blotch (Stagonospora curtisii)
A fungal disease common in Amaryllidaceae bulbs causing red streaks and lesions on leaves and flower stems. Purchase clean, certified bulbs; discard severely infected material; avoid splashing water on leaves and crowding plants.
