Alocasia Amazonica problems — and how to fix them
Alocasia Amazonica (Alocasia × amazonica) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Sudden leaf drop / dormancy
Cold, low light or inconsistent watering can push it into dormancy. Keep it warm (above 18°C) and evenly moist; the rhizome usually resprouts even if all leaves are lost.
Crispy brown leaf edges
Low humidity or fertiliser-salt buildup. Raise humidity above 60% and flush the pot to clear salts, watering with tepid filtered water.
Spider mites
Dry indoor air invites fine webbing and stippling on leaf undersides. Increase humidity, rinse the foliage, and treat with insecticidal soap or neem.
Yellowing leaves from overwatering
A soggy, dense mix rots the rhizome. Let the top few centimetres dry between waterings and repot into an airy, free-draining aroid blend.
